Description:This is inspired by Bird on Money by Jean-Michel Basquiat. He was an African American artist in the 1980s. He first gained popularity in the 70s due to his graffiti in Manhattan, and never had any formal training. Despite this, he studied art history since a young age. His art represents dichotomies such as wealth versus poverty or integration versus segregation. His art was contemporary and neo-expressionism, while his graffiti was typically more abstract. Bird on Money is a tribute to Charlie Parker, a jazz musician who was nicknamed bird. I chose this piece because its really unique and I like all the aspects it has. I struggled with the handle since I tried to make it look like the bird in the painting, but it fell off multiple times. I wish I added more of the small details onto it to fill up the extra space.
